Detailing your car is a great thing to do for it, especially if your a clean freak like me. But a lot of people don't know what's best, take your car to a Pro or give it a go yourself. This blog will be telling you what I think the the Pros and cons are on both to help you decide what's better for you and your life. Remember this is what I think the Pros and Cons are and everyone has different situations.
Professional Detailing
Pros
One of the biggest benefits of going to a pro is you don't have to do it yourself, this is great if you have medical issues and can't do it yourself or if you don't have the time to do it. Getting a pro to do it is also very convenient, they can come to you or you can leave the car with them and get some other jobs done while you wait, or treat yourself to a coffee. The professionals also have the right tools for the job and may even have tools that you can't get. This also helps you get a better end result then if you did it yourself. Getting a pro to do it is also great if your selling a car or if you just brought a car and want to get it cleaned before using it on a daily basis.
Cons
The biggest issue with getting a car Professionally cleaned is the cost, some places charge from $50 to almost $400 for a small to medium car (this prices are from 3 different places for the same detailing job). Some places will charge you extra for curtain services such as engine bay degreasing pet hair removal and tar removal. If you do take your car to a Professional then there is a chance your car may be damaged in some way. One way damage could be done is by them driving it to move it (this is a big reason I do my own car care is I don't like people driving my car or working on my car). Some places do walk ins but lately I have found that a lot of places need you to book, this may be because of Covid or because they are busy, you may have to wait a while I'm finding its a months wait, so try and find a place that allows walk ins, if you need it done straight away. Lastly you may not get your moneys worth with some places, so make sure you look at reviews of places and ask around to find a good place.
Doing it Yourself
Pros
There are quiet a few advantages of doing a detail yourself, with the invention of the internet and YouTube if you get stuck there are people and videos to help. Doing it yourself can also save you quite a bit of money then paying someone to do it for you. When you do detail your car you can do as little of the detailing such as simply washing the car to doing everything to the interior and a wax, this also comes to the point of if there is a mess or a spill you can get to it quick and without braking the budget. With everything learning to detail a car properly will need practice like everything but when you finally learn you will have a great skill that is useful and will save you a little bit of money, you could even make a business out of it.
Cons
There are some problems with detailing a car yourself such as the up front cost of the equipment, a carpet shampooer can cost up to $350 plus the products, it does add up a little. You then have the issue of cleaning and maintaining the equipment to help the equipment last longer. When it comes to the products to use sometimes you can buy the wrong ones or may use the incorrect product for a curtain job, this could lead to damage being done to the car. Some people might find that they have higher expectations on the quality they will produce when they start and end up with a job that was below that because they are new to detailing. With a lot of people they may find that spending a whole Saturday or Sunday to detail a car time consuming and can't find the time in their busy schedules to do a detail on there car.
Conclusion
In the end everyone is different and whether you spend money for a professional or do it yourself its okay. They both have there ups and downs but choose one that helps you and your situation what might be good for one person may not be for another. Remember to look at both Pros and Cons when making a decision and go from there. In the end you will still have a clean car, hopefully.
